Adult learning professionals are finding that traditional knowledge delivery methods are becoming more and more antiquated, particularly as businesses are moving at the speed of evolving technologies. It has become increasingly important to stay abreast of new tools, trends, theories, and practices.
The risk of not doing so is that learners will become harder and harder to reach! Be it generational psychology, cultural awareness and humility, advancements in the neuroscience of learning, or even something as mundane as staying current with the news or "who's-who" on the cover of the hottest periodical (or in most cases, the hottest "influencer" on YouTube or TikTok), the ultimate result is the same: An adult learning professional MUST remain in tune with the NOW, or they will become irrelevant. As my father, Yndalcio "Fred" Fernandez says: "Currency is the newest currency!"
The lesson is obvious: To engage and impact today's learners, a good adult learning professional knows that they must meet those learners where they live.
Microlearnings, infographics, podcasts, newsletters, video bytes, chatrooms, RSS feeds, organizational intranets, social media platforms, and yes, blogs, are all robust and useful tools that every adult learning professional MUST have in their toolbox. Fluency in them is paramount.
